In the summer of 2022, Kato is launching numerous RhB freight and refrigerated cars from the companies Coop and Swiss Post in various designs, thereby expanding its extensive Rhätische Bahn® range with additional freight wagons. The RhB freight cars are impossible to miss as they serve as rolling billboards on a rail network of 384 km throughout Graubünden. Each year, a freight car covers over 100,000 km and is in operation for up to 14 hours a day. The swap container system combines the road-compatible swap container transport with the advantages of rail transport. Depending on the type of swap container, beverages, food, packages, sensitive goods, bulk goods, construction materials, and much more are transported. The Coop cooperative, based in Basel, is one of the largest retail and wholesale companies in Switzerland. It was founded in 1890 as the "Association of Swiss Consumer Cooperatives" (VSK), renamed "Coop" in 1969, and is organized with around 2.5 million members. Under its own name, Coop operates supermarkets, department stores, restaurants, DIY stores, and much more. With the RhB refrigerated cars of type Lb-v, Coop supplies food distribution centers in Graubünden. These 20 containers can be flexibly transported on both narrow-gauge or standard-gauge wagons as well as on trucks, ensuring a constant cooling of the goods.
