Ambush & Assault is an adventure anthology for the 5th edition of the traditional fantasy role-playing game The Dark Eye. It has been designed for play with maps and markers from the Game Master's toolkit but can also be played easily without these aids.

Marked maps guide the group of heroes into the Svell Valley, where they encounter a gold seeker during a game of Boltan, who recruits them as escorts. Together, they venture into the wilderness of Svelltland, to a place believed to hold gold and star metal.

While the heroes learn how to mine for metals and take care of setting up camp, they must face various dangerous challenges: a bloodthirsty orc tribe, wild monsters, and greedy competitors make their lives difficult.

During the adventure days of fire, the group of heroes finds themselves in Almada. They receive a mission to check on the situation in the small village of Wildenfest. There, an arson has occurred, and the villagers whisper that supernatural forces are behind it. The heroes follow some leads in Wildenfest, dealing with bandits, wild animals, and the arsonists - ultimately uncovering a danger from a long-forgotten time.

In The Cult of the Black Dagger, the heroes in Riva accidentally witness a kidnapping in the town square and, being the heroes they are, attempt to help the victim. The adventurers uncover a dark cult that has sinister plans for its captive. In classic dungeon fashion, the heroes infiltrate the cultists' hideout and must contend with hungry crypts, fanatical cultists, undead, and even worse creatures.
