Trauffer Appenzeller Mountain Dog

ProSpecieRara The Appenzeller Sennenhund descends from farm dogs that were used as herding dogs in the Appenzell cantons for many centuries. The distinctive herding instinct of Appenzeller dogs is legendary and they have many friends - also thanks to their attractive tricolour markings.

In the past, almost every region of Switzerland had its own farm animal breeds. Many became extinct around and after the world wars. Of the animal breeds that survived, several are still threatened with extinction today. They have been promoted since 1982 by the ProSpecieRara Foundation together with many committed animal keepers. In collaboration with ProSpecieRara, the traditional wooden toy company Trauffer has dedicated an elaborately hand-carved collection to the endangered animals, which is intended to draw attention to the rare breeds. In addition, 50 centimes from the proceeds of each wooden animal will benefit ProSpecieRara projects for endangered animals.
