Product details
Between 1955 and 1975, the locomotives of the Ae 6/6 series handled virtually all heavy traffic on the Gotthard line. The next step in the 1970s was the procurement of a powerful locomotive with high curve speeds and better adhesion values. The first Re 6/6 locomotive was put into operation in July 1975, and the last one was delivered in December 1980. They have 10,600 horsepower and are still considered the strongest Swiss locomotives. Only the now non-operational 'Landilok' Ae 8/14, which is on display at the Transport Museum, surpassed this performance by 500 horsepower. A total of 89 units were built for the SBB. They now belong to SBB Cargo and are still in use on the Gotthard line as well as in freight trains in other parts of Switzerland.
