Under the designation Porsche 901, the long-awaited successor to the first production sports car of the brand from Zuffenhausen, the Porsche 356, was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 1963. Since three-digit designations with a zero in the middle were already protected by Peugeot and thus objections were raised against the designation "901", Porsche decided without further ado to launch the car on the market under the designation 911. A model designation that was soon to have a magical effect on the motoring world and all sports car enthusiasts.
