After the first Porsche sports car, known as the Porsche No. 1, received approval for public road use on June 8, 1948, through a special permit, Porsche presented its first production sports car, the legendary Porsche 356, at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1949. Between 1949 and 1950, a total of 44 coupes and 8 convertibles of the so-called "Gmünd Porsche 356" were handcrafted. In 1950, Porsche moved back to its original factory in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, where just over 76,000 units of this sports car icon were produced until the end of the 356 model in April 1965.
