Schuco Land Rover 80 dark green 1:12

In post-war England in 1945, there was a significant demand for an all-terrain vehicle with solid technology and the capability to transport agricultural and other goods. In 1946, brothers Maurice and Spencer Wilks set out to develop such a vehicle, inspired by the American Willy military Jeeps. Due to the steel shortage in England at the time, they decided to construct the body from aluminum sheets used in aircraft manufacturing. These were available in sufficient quantities after the war, as military aircraft production had been drastically reduced. At the Amsterdam Motor Show in April 1948, the brothers presented their development to the public for the first time as the Land Rover, marking the beginning of a unique success story. From 1948 to 2016, more than 2 million of this original Land Rover type were produced, which was marketed under the name Land Rover Defender starting in 1990.
