The breeding of the Knabstrupper breed began in 1812 with the Flaebestute, which was used for breeding after the purchase of several other mares at the Danish Knabstrupgaard. Knabstruppers are primarily characterized by their leopard-spotted coloring and are divided into three types: Pony, Baroque, and Sport, each with its own qualities. All Knabstruppers are valued for their robustness and good-natured temperament.
