The Holsteiner is an exceptionally popular sport horse and is one of the oldest horse breeds in Germany. It has been bred since the 14th century at the monastery of Uetersen, which is located in the present-day state of Schleswig-Holstein. However, the earliest records of the Holsteiner are even older, dating back to the year 1225.
