Product details
To replace the cost- and labor-intensive steam locomotives in shunting service, the Austrian Federal Railways began acquiring a series of 400-horsepower diesel locomotives of the series 2062 starting in 1958. The Jenbacher Works in Tyrol built a total of 65 of these two-axle small diesel locomotives by 1966. With their distinctive cast-iron front plates, which serve as ballast weights, the locomotives were used throughout Austria in shunting and construction train service. On the secondary lines in Lower Austria, these locomotives could be found pulling passenger trains with one to two carriages. The last locomotives were retired from regular service in 2003. However, some examples are still in use today as factory and construction locomotives under the series designation X262.
