The Class V 100 was procured in series starting from 1961/62 after testing prototype machines. It was used in mixed branch line operations on non-electrified routes and in light service on main lines. With a power output of 1100 HP (810 kW), it was approved for speeds of up to 110 km/h. In 1968, the machines were reclassified as Class 211.
