Product details
To replace the cost- and labor-intensive steam locomotives in shunting service, the Austrian Federal Railways procured a series of 400-horsepower diesel locomotives of the series 2062 starting in 1958. The Jenbacher Works in Tyrol produced a total of 65 units of this two-axle small diesel locomotive by 1966. With their distinctive cast iron front plates, which served as ballast weights, the locomotive was used throughout Austria in shunting and construction train service. On the secondary lines in Lower Austria, these locomotives could be found pulling passenger trains with one to two cars. The last locomotives were retired from regular service in 2003. However, some units are still in operation today as factory and construction locomotives under the designation X262.
