Diesel locomotive Class 221 of the German Federal Railways. To manage the increased traffic volume on non-electrified main lines, the German Federal Railways acquired a total of 50 locomotives of the Class V 200.1 starting in 1962. They differed from their predecessors by having more powerful engines, which were necessary for increasingly longer and heavier passenger trains. The main areas of operation included the routes between Kempten and Lindau, Offenburg and Constance, as well as the well-known "Bird Flight" line between Germany and Denmark. During their service life, the locomotives were later reclassified as Class 221 and often received an ocean blue-beige livery.
