Due to deficiencies, the operation of these trains became increasingly uneconomical, which is why the multiple units operating under the designation BR 602 were decommissioned by DB in 1978 and 1979. Only the power car 602 003 has been preserved for museum purposes and can now be found at the DB Museum in Nuremberg.
