In search of valuable treasures, adventurers explore the legendary temple in Luxor. The goal is to reach the Pharaoh's tomb. However, there are numerous treasures to collect along the way. A competition ensues: the player who reaches the tomb with their team of five adventurers the fastest and brings back the most treasures wins the game. No game is the same, as the path to the tomb is different each time and even changes during the game, providing players with new challenges.

In the run-and-collect game "Luxor," players enter an ancient Egyptian temple with their adventurers and follow the corridor to the Pharaoh's tomb. The path is lined with valuable vases, statues, jewelry, and other treasures. To collect these, up to three of their own figures must occupy the same space. This requires good planning, as the adventurers are moved by playing cards from their hand. However, only the outer two of the five hand cards are available for selection. Shuffling is not allowed. Drawn cards are always placed in the center of the hand. The deeper a piece penetrates into the temple, the more points it earns at the end. The fastest player not only collects many treasures but also the sarcophagi in the tomb.

There is no stale mold wafting from this tomb for the adventurers, but a pleasantly fresh breeze. With "Luxor," Rüdiger Dorn presents a modern interpretation of the treasure-collecting game, centered around a card mechanism that is both quick to understand and challenging. This proves to be an excellent foundation for a constantly exciting struggle for position. The Pharaoh himself would likely love to participate again. Nominated for Game of the Year 2018.
