In 1955, Joe McVicker made a discovery that would change his life: Whenever four-year-old Paul visited his mother at work, he would mold funny figures from the wallpaper cleaning compound produced by the company. When he saw Paul creating entire groups of animals, he had a brilliant idea: Why not make this easily moldable substance accessible to other children so they could express their creativity with modeling clay? Thus, the Play-Doh brand was born.

The recipe for the super-soft Play-Doh with its unique scent remains one of the best-kept secrets in the toy industry. Thanks to its production based on natural raw materials like water, salt, and wheat flour, the clay is non-toxic.
