20 Questions with a Twist: a time limit and a secret insider who knows the answer!

Do we really have free will? Who decides that? Are we controlled by what we hear and see, even when we think we are making free choices? Insider is a game that explores these questions. While communicating with others, you must find the right answers to a quiz or identify the insider who is manipulating the discussion. The insider will do everything to hide their identity while misleading the others.

In detail, players are randomly assigned roles. One player is the master, who secretly selects a word from a deck of cards. In one variant, they can freely choose and write down a word. The insider player, whose role is unknown to the other players, will then secretly view the word. The remaining players are referred to as the commons. The commons have about five minutes to ask the master yes-or-no questions to guess the secret word. The insider tries to subtly guide the commons toward the correct word. If the commons do not guess the correct word, everyone loses.

If the word is guessed correctly within the allowed time, the master flips the hourglass, and the commons along with the master have until the sand runs out to discuss the game and determine the identity of the insider. If they guess correctly, they win the game together; if not, the insider wins.
