In Prussia, there was always an effort towards rationalization, leading to the construction of a new tank locomotive in the late 1910s based on proven design principles. Parts of the drive and running gear were adopted with some modifications from the well-established G8.1. The new locomotives were classified as series T14. A total of 457 units were built for the Prussian State Railway. Subsequently, the Imperial Railways in Alsace-Lorraine ordered 40 locomotives of this type. After World War II, the class 93.0–4 was scattered across Europe. Freshly overhauled, they were used not only in divided Germany but also in Poland, Belgium, and Austria. The DB operated its machines until 1960, with the Bw Limburg and the routes between Lahn, Dill, and Sieg being their last refuge. The DR continued to use them until 1971, particularly around Berlin, mainly for freight trains. The model features TT short couplings!.
