The steam locomotive of the BR 03 appears as an authentic model in the design of the DB Era III. Like the original, the model features four large leading wheels, matching lamps, as well as a suitable frame and a faithful reproduction of the scissors brakes. The overall impression is rounded off by the sharp contour printing and the short locomotive plate. The model comes factory-equipped with a matching PSD XP sound decoder and digitally controllable lighting in the area of the chassis and the driver's cab. Additionally, there is a red flickering LED in the firebox area that can be digitally switched. The model carries the quality mark fits mfx®. To ensure that digital decoders can be reliably used by all users of the current Märklin digital central units, a new quality mark "fits mfx®" was introduced in collaboration with Märklin and other manufacturers. This can only be used by digital decoders that have undergone a special mfx® test and passed it completely. These decoders, as well as the locomotives in which they are installed, bear the quality mark "fits mfx®," which certifies unrestricted mfx® functionality. This means that PIKO products with the "fits mfx®" logo now also fully support the diverse functions of mfx®.
