Coal and Colony takes you to the southern Ruhr area at the beginning of the industrial revolution. You acquire mining fields and operate small and individual mines in the region of today's cities of Essen, Hattingen, Bochum, and Witten. Over five rounds, you deploy miners and mining engineers in your growing mines, attract new workers from the surrounding villages, and build settlements to further develop your mining network into the most profitable production sites possible. A central event is the consolidation: when small mines of a mining field are merged and the auction for the newly created large mine is pending, everything depends on your bid! But beware: not only do your fellow players want to outbid you – the influential coal syndicate is also involved and competes with you for the valuable mining fields. Will you still win the bid for the most attractive large mine?
