The game is ready to play immediately and can be played with as few as two people. A control mechanism ensures that the one who listens well wins. When the story invites an exciting search that calls for one's own combinatorial skills, children are particularly motivated – and this is where Mistakes, Mistakes, Bean Counter literally comes into play. With a total of 48 stories, children aged 5 and up playfully train their listening skills, concentration, and memory. The competition with fellow players adds to the excitement, as the winner is the one who listened and combined the best. Here’s how it works: The group selects a reader – an older child or an adult – and chooses the story to be played. The reader reads the story in order – from card A to card C – slowly and with emphasis. The other players listen attentively to the entire story and secretly mark on their evaluation cards with their three game pieces the three aspects they believe are contradictory. The captain has a red beard once and a black beard another time, the magic potion is sometimes ice-cold and sometimes boiling hot, the children ride a gray horse once and a black horse another time – players quickly realize that uncovering the contradictions is not so easy. The resolution through the control mechanism of the story cards holds further surprises that ensure fun in the game.
