Product details

The abbreviation TEE evokes memories. Once, these three letters stood for sophisticated travel – on the Trans-European Express. As its era inevitably came to an end, it was IC trains and also night connections that enabled limitless travel. However, European railway administrations were in search of a new product with very high uniform standards and eventually launched the EuroCity. Its inception date was May 31, 1987. Tourists and business travelers could comfortably traverse the main routes and reach the most beautiful cities in Europe. Not all connections were available from the very beginning in the timetable. One train pair was added a year later, the EuroCity "Vauban," which started on May 29, 1988. Its name is derived from the French Marquis de Vauban, who lived from 1633 to 1707 and became famous as a fortress builder under Louis XIV. The train route varied, but the starting and ending point was always Brussels. In Switzerland, the stations Basel, Zurich, or Interlaken were served. For several years, it traveled via the Lötschberg line to the Valais, reaching Brig. For a time, Milano Centrale was also included in the schedule. Modern Eurofima coaches from the Belgian, Swiss, or Italian railways always formed the fleet. Occasionally, the Italians provided the dining car. What a pleasure it must have been to travel on such a train! It was also visually appealing, whether in the classic orange or later in the well-chosen subtle colors of the Belgian State Railways. The train route from Brussels to Basel/Zurich lasted the longest. Model: 3 express train cars from the Belgian State Railways for EuroCity EC 90 Vauban, with the route Zurich-Basel-Luxembourg-Brussels. 1 first-class compartment car, 2 second-class compartment cars. Eurofima design. Operational condition in the early/mid-2000s. Model: Minimum radius of 360 mm. Type-specific designed underbodies.
