Seals are semi-aquatic marine mammals as they live both in the sea and on land. They are known as "fin-footed" because they have flippers for feet. They are found on coasts all over the world, but mainly live in the Arctic and Antarctic. They are torpedo-shaped and have a smooth, streamlined coat that allows them to glide easily through the water. In dark, murky waters, seals use their whiskers to orientate themselves and find food. They feed on fish, squid, mussels, crustaceans or seabirds. Some, like leopard seals, even eat other seal species.
