Product details
From the 1880s, the K. Sächs. Sts. E.B. began serial production of the well-known two-axle freight cars for narrow-gauge railways, available in various designs, both as covered and open cars. By the end of the 19th century, the plans were revised, including a reduction of the wheelbase from 3,800 mm to 3,000 mm, which improved running characteristics on tight curves. The cars, measuring 6.5 meters in length and weighing just under 3 tons, allowed for a payload of around 5 tons, which was in line with the technological standards of the time. However, shortly thereafter, the first four-axle freight cars were introduced, leading to the rapid relegation or scrapping of the old two-axle models. Nevertheless, some were preserved, including the covered car 1855 K, which is now displayed in the gray paint scheme of the early 20th century, and the open car 4122 in the brown paint scheme from 1909. Both cars have been exemplary restored and are available in Radebeul today. This model represents the covered Saxon freight car 1855 K, as it is still used today as a museum car on various narrow-gauge railways in Saxony. It features authentic coloring and lettering from eras I and VI, with opening doors and metal wheelsets. Length over buffers is 30 cm.
