The cars started from the famous starting ramp in Brescia at one-minute intervals. The first to leave the Mercedes team was J.M. Fangio, who departed at 6:58 AM with the drawn starting number 658 as the sole driver from the start and finish location in Brescia. The next SLR driver, Karl Kling, took to the 1600 km long course at 7:01 AM with starting number 701. Following him, the driver team of Hans Herrmann with co-driver Hermann Eger left Brescia at 7:04 AM with starting number 704 and set the SLR in motion. Finally, the young daredevil Stirling Moss, with his co-driver Denis Jenkinson, launched into the race at 7:22 AM with starting number 722. Due to his composed driving style and outstanding skill behind the wheel, J.M. Fangio reached the finish in Brescia as the second winner behind Stirling Moss (also in an SLR).
