Objective Types:
Achromatic: These objectives are corrected for chromatic aberration, so the images of two colors, usually red and blue, coincide. The correction for spherical aberration is minimal. At magnifications of 30x or higher, significant distortion occurs at the edge of the image.
Semi-plan achromatic objectives: Mostly comparable to achromatic objectives, but corrected for spherical aberration and magnifications above 40X. Plan (e-Plan) achromatic objectives: These are qualitatively the best objectives. The spherical correction is so good that a sharp and high-contrast image can be seen from the center to the edge of the field of view.
