Product details
The Brandenburg Gate has been one of the most important landmarks of Berlin for over 200 years, both architecturally and historically. It was originally erected on the orders of the Prussian King Frederick William II as a symbol of peace. It is part of a series of 18 gates that surround the city and was built between 1788 and 1791 based on designs by the architect Carl Gotthard Langhans, who was inspired by the Propylaea of the Athenian Acropolis. The sandstone gate is characterized by six Doric columns on each side, creating five passages. Atop the gate stands the impressive Quadriga, created by Johann Gottfried Schadow, which depicts the Roman goddess of victory, Victoria, on a chariot drawn by four horses. This LEGO architectural interpretation of the Brandenburg Gate was designed by US architect Adam Reed Tucker in collaboration with the LEGO Design Team.
