Blood powder allows for the realistic creation of instant blood effects. For example, it can be used to simulate a bleeding cut on stage or in film in front of a live camera. The blood powder is applied thinly and evenly to the chosen dry skin area of the performer using a powder puff or brush. The applied blood powder is nearly invisible. The object intended to cause the injury is then treated with a moistening agent (such as diluted skin gloss gel or glycerin mixed with water) and brought into contact with the powdered skin area. Depending on the amount of moisture applied, a small trickle of blood will appear instantly. Blood powder is made with soluble colors and is not easily removable from fabrics and can be difficult to remove from some surfaces. To prevent potential skin discoloration, blood powder should be used on skin isolated with grease paint.
