Chevrolet vehicles began arriving in the Soviet Union from the United States in 1942. By the end of the war, the number of these vehicles in the Soviet Army had reached approximately 47,000 units. They were reliable and agile enough, with good maneuverability. As a result, they rightfully earned the love and respect of the soldiers. Many vehicles of this series not only served as trucks but also provided a platform for the installation of multiple rocket launch systems—rocket artillery combat vehicles known as "Katyusha." Between 1942 and 1943, launchers with 16 rails for 132-mm rockets were mounted on the chassis of the Chevrolet G7107. This was an effective and impressive weapon with a projectile speed of about 355 m/s and a range of approximately 8 km. Its salvos were very effective and often proved to be a decisive factor in the outcome of combat operations.
