Historically, Switzerland is not known as a major tattoo nation. However, it is the birthplace of important tattoo pioneers, including the Leu family. Today, tattoo shops dominate the streets of Switzerland: there are more than a thousand, many of which are renowned worldwide. This book presents a selection of tattoo artists and asks: What makes Swiss tattoos so special? Is it exceptional skills in graphic design, an openness to travel and the international scene, or a strong connection to their homeland? There is no definitive answer.
