The countless billions of human soldiers that make up the ranks of the Astra Militarum defend the Imperium of Man against swarms of enemies intent on its destruction. Despite all adversities, the Imperial Guard, as it is also known, employs deadly war machines and relies on the courage of its guardsmen to protect humanity.

The Astra Militarum, the primary fighting force of the Imperium, is so numerous that no one can quantify the number of guardsmen in its ranks. The lists of new recruits and the number of fallen can reach into the millions in a single day. It would be impractical to accurately assess the strength of the Guard; however, it is estimated that there are many billions of guardsmen divided into millions of regiments. This sheer numerical strength gives the Guard its greatest advantage: its ability to appear in overwhelming numbers, which ultimately leads to victory. They attack in seemingly endless streams across battlefields, charging under the cover of massive barrages and unleashing massed lasgun volleys – in the Guard, the individual human soldier may seem lost and almost forgotten. Yet, the actions of these anonymous soldiers determine the fate of worlds every day. In times of crisis, the Imperial Guard calls upon its deadliest soldiers, whether they are the famed Stormtroopers of the Imperium or the regimental elite of Kasrkin and Grenadiers.
