Starting in 1936, the German Reichsbahn Society put streamlined express train cars into service. Windows and doors were completely flush with the car's outer wall, and the side walls extended beyond the actual end of the car and were drawn down between the bogies. The "skirted cars" achieved a significant reduction in air resistance. In 1974, eight skirted dining cars were given an ocean blue-beige paint scheme.
