Diesel locomotive 218 469 of Deutsche Bahn. Starting in 1971, the Deutsche Bundesbahn put 398 series locomotives of the 218 class into service, using them for both passenger and freight trains. They are deployed on most non-electrified routes and reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h with a power output of 1,840 kW. Over time, the 218 class has gone through several color variations. The first 218 locomotives were delivered in the typical color scheme for diesel locomotives, which was purplish-red.
