Die Baureihe 64

The success story began with the first 1'C1' standard steam locomotive of the series 64, delivered in 1928, which was designed for passenger train service on branch lines. By 1940, 520 units had been built. After World War II, these small tender locomotives were an integral part of the railways for a long time, operating until the 1970s. In many historical scenes from both East and West, the 64, also known by the nickname "Bubikopf," comes back to life. We showcase some of the 19 locomotives that have been preserved in Europe, many of which are displayed in museums or set up as monuments. You can see the museum locomotives 64 289, 415, 419, 491, and 518 in steam. We rode in the cab or waited along the tracks. The result is an impressive film about the "Bubikopf," as the locomotive was called due to its compact design.
