Material set for crafting a hopping bee with movable wings. The bee wings are cut out of the packaging. In addition, only an empty toilet paper roll is needed. Instructions are enclosed. Besides the materials included in the kit, you will need an empty toilet paper roll, a hole punch, and scissors. Twist the different colored pipe cleaners around the cardboard roll to form the strips of the bee's body. Drill two holes directly above the strips and another at the top. A smaller child may need adult help for this. Cut out the wings shown on the inside of the package and fold them in half. A piece of cord in the middle of each wing ensures parallel halves and the desired wing flap. Drill holes with a hole punch or scissors and attach the wings and beads to the body of the bee using the paper clips provided. Finish by decorating the bee with glitter glue, self-adhesive wiggle eyes, and foam rubber dots. The antennae are created from a piece of pipe cleaner, pom poms, and foam rubber dots. The idea behind this set is to get children excited about sensibly recycling used items such as cardboard rolls, egg cartons, and plastic waste, and to inspire them to use their creativity and imagination to make something new that can be played with or reused in other ways. This is a wonderful way to talk to children about recycling and excessive waste of materials and to raise their awareness of the issue.
