Who is Rilakkuma?

The name "Rilakkuma" is made up of "rirakkusu", the Japanese transliteration of the English word "relax", and "kuma", the Japanese word for "bear". According to Rilakkuma's backstory, he suddenly turned up at the flat of Kaoru, an employee of Samejima GmbH. Rilakkuma decided to live and relax there with her, together with Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori.

Rilakkuma first appeared in the picture book Rilakkuma Seikatsu by San-X. In the picture book, Rilakkuma wears various costumes. It is suggested that he is also wearing a costume in his normal appearance. His lower body is said to be a costume.
