Who is Rilakkuma?

The name "Rilakkuma" is a combination of "rirakkusu," the Japanese transliteration of the English word "relax," and "kuma," the Japanese word for "bear." According to Rilakkuma's backstory, he suddenly appeared in the apartment of Kaoru, an employee of Samejima Co., Ltd. Rilakkuma decided to live there with her and relax, along with Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori.

Rilakkuma first appeared in the picture book Rilakkuma Seikatsu by San-X. In the picture book, Rilakkuma wears various costumes. It is suggested that he is also in a costume in his normal appearance, as his lower body is said to be a costume.
