A true highlight at any pirate party.
The piñatas are colorful figures made of cardboard or papier-mâché, traditionally filled with fruits but also with candies and small gifts for children's birthday parties. They are also popular in Latin America and Spain during Christmas and Easter.
Similar to the game of hitting pots, children with their eyes blindfolded take turns hitting the piñata with a stick until it breaks and surprises rain down. The piñata is usually hung from a rope above the children and can only be reached with the stick. One child at a time is blindfolded, and each child gets three attempts to hit the piñata and break it. When the piñata breaks, all the children can collect as much as they can grab. Songs are sung to help the child find and hit the piñata.
