Amewi flight DO-27 red / white

The Dornier DO-27 is an evolution of the DO-25. Modifications were made to the wing and the vertical stabilizer, among other changes. The previously external fuel tanks were integrated into the wings, and a Lycoming GO-480-B1A6 engine was installed. The significantly heavier engine and the resulting change in center of gravity necessitated a repositioning and reinforcement of the landing gear. After constructing a test cell for load testing, production of a prototype began in the fall of 1955, which ultimately took to the skies for the first time on October 17, 1956. The Bundeswehr was one of the largest customers, receiving the first production aircraft on January 14, 1957, which was handed over to the Army Aviation Squadron 811 in Niedermendig. Thus, the Dornier DO-27 was the first German powered aircraft to be produced in series after World War II.

The slow flight characteristics are fantastic and present no significant difficulties for aspiring pilots. Additionally, the striking paint scheme provides good visibility in the air, greatly simplifying the overall situational awareness of the model.
