I have a Tradfri socket myself, it is recognised directly in the Hue app without any problems.

It's not cheap, I agree. But it integrates so wonderfully into the Hue system and the corresponding accessories.

The hue plug integrates better into the hue system than the Ikea plug. If you already have Tradfri, it doesn't make sense, actually. But it does the other way round.
