Question about Arlo Wired Video Doorbell

Is the Smarthub really necessary? Or only if one wants specific features? For example I don’t want to record the videos, but simply be able to see livestream + get notifications when someone rings the bell or pass by my doorstep. Can I use the product without buying a smart hub? (And yes, my WiFi reaches easily beyond the doorstep.) Thank you in advance for the reply. Regards PC
