Have I understood correctly, the unit levels itself and thus a metre level can be created?

The self-levelling is modest.
You have to align it yourself, because of a pendulum inside it, it levels itself. But only in the range of maybe 10-20mm
But you have to be careful, as soon as the Quigo is tilted towards the wall, the self-levelling no longer works. (tilt backwards)
There is no tripod included. You have to adjust the metre level yourself.
The device is great for small jobs. I am satisfied👌👌
