Ignition timing gun for setting the ignition timing in gasoline engines with standard or transistor ignition. It can be used to set 12-volt ignitions. A super-bright xenon tube and a special collecting lens ensure optimal visibility of fixed markings even at speeds over 8000 RPM in the near-field range.
Connect the gun to a 12-volt battery using the alligator clips and attach the inductive clamp directly to the ignition cable near the spark plug connector.
The ignition timing should always be set when the engine is warm and the cold air flap of the carburetor is fully open. During measurement and adjustment, the engine must run at the original idle speed (usually around 850 ±50 RPM). If this is not the case, the idle speed must be corrected first.
Connect the inductive clamp of the timing light to the spark plug or ignition cable of the first cylinder and connect the alligator clips for 12 V +/- to the vehicle's 12-volt battery. The correct ignition timing can be found in the vehicle's operating manual or in a service manual. Depending on the model, the marking on the V-belt pulley will now flash with the strobe light.
