Every user of batteries or accumulators is legally required to return old batteries and accumulators. You can do this free of charge at retail stores or at another collection point near you.

For batteries that contain more than 0.0005 mass percent mercury, more than 0.002 mass percent cadmium, or more than 0.004 mass percent lead, the chemical designations of the respective harmful substance are located under the trash can symbol. The chemical designations have the following meanings:
Pb: Battery contains lead
Cd: Battery contains cadmium
Hg: Battery contains mercury.
