Machine tap made from cobalt-alloyed and vaporized high-performance high-speed steel. Suitable for through holes and blind holes, in unalloyed and alloyed steels up to 1000 N/mm² strength, as well as stainless steels. The thread is cut in a single operation. "Vaporizing" refers to the deposition of a non-metallic oxide layer. Vaporizing acts as a separating layer and reduces the occurrence of cold welding. Cold welding refers to workpiece chips that weld onto the flank of the tap and damage the produced thread. Consequences of cold welding include torn and rough thread flanks. VAP improves the adhesion of lubricants to the tool surface. The illustration is schematic. Smaller diameters may be supplied with a tip due to production reasons.
