The diameter refers to the size of the clevis pin it fits.

839-268 has a size designation and wire size (d) of 3/16 inch x 1 mm.
839-274 has a size designation and wire size (d) of 1/4 inch x 1.2 mm.
839-280 has a size designation and wire size (d) of 5/16 inch x 1.6 mm.
839-296 has a size designation and wire size (d) of 3/8 inch x 1.8 mm.
