The Solarline String Combiner Boxes (SCBs) are used in both small rooftop systems and large freestanding systems. The main tasks of the SCBs are to provide surge protection for the PV system, to collect strings if necessary, and to loop through the protective grounding conductor for local potential equalization.

Additional functions are optional and depend on the configuration. Examples of optional features include string protection with string fuses and disconnecting the strings via DC disconnect switches or DC fire service switches.
