Product details

Waterproof digital wine refractometer PCE-DRW 2 for determining the sugar content in wine / Measurement units Brix, Oechsle, KMW or alcohol content / Ideal for winemakers / IP65 protection / with automatic shut-off.

The digital wine refractometer from PCE Instruments has been specifically designed to determine the ripeness of grapes in viticulture. It is used for the precise determination of the sugar content in the must, allowing the winemaker to effectively assess the potential alcohol content of the wine that will later be produced from the grapes. Generally, the riper a grape is, the more sugar it contains, which is converted into alcohol during winemaking.

The wine refractometer operates by measuring the refractive index of a liquid. The user can measure the concentration of sugar in the grape must with just a small sample. It is sufficient to place a few drops of the grape must into the stainless steel well of the device to obtain a meaningful result. A prism is embedded in the sample well, which measures the sugar concentration in the must through light refraction. On average, approximately 16.5 g of sugar corresponds to 1% alcohol.

The integrated light source in the digital wine refractometer prevents measurement errors that can occur with an analog wine refractometer due to artificial light sources such as fluorescent lamps. The measurement result is quickly and accurately displayed on the large, easy-to-read LC display after automatic temperature compensation (10…40 °C). The user can choose between various common measurement units: Brix (0 to 45.00 %), Oechsle (3 to 150), KMW (0 to 25.00) or alcohol content (0 to 22.00 %). Additionally, the display provides information about the measured temperature of the liquid thanks to an integrated temperature indicator.
