Product details

The great advantage of the cup anemometer is undoubtedly the fact that the cups do not need to be held exactly into the wind direction. Standard vane anemometers have the disadvantage that they only measure accurately when the vane is precisely aligned with the wind. The very smooth-running cups respond even to small flow velocities.

What is a cup anemometer? Anemone is the Greek word for wind. Thus, an anemometer is used to measure wind speed. The cup anemometer is the most commonly used type. It has a vertical axis and three or four egg-shaped cups that catch the wind.

Measuring principle: The faster the wind blows, the faster the open cups rotate. The number of revolutions per minute is recorded electronically. By counting the revolutions per second or minute, you obtain a measure of wind speed.

Most often, cup anemometers are used in conjunction with a wind direction sensor, mounted on a frame, as a fixed measuring unit. The cup anemometer allows for mobile measurements of wind speeds of up to 35 m/s directly at the site of use.
