Pavilion Le Corbusier Zurich

On the shores of Lake Zurich stands the only work of the century's architect Le Corbusier in German-speaking Switzerland: an exhibition building designed according to the Modulor proportion system, scaled to the size of a residential house, which illustrates the aesthetic potential of elementary prefabrication as a framework for the presentation of painting, sculpture, photography, and furniture. Initiated by Zurich gallery owner Heidi Weber and opened in 1967, the maison d’homme, constructed from steel, glass, and neoprene, encapsulates central themes of Le Corbusier while also hinting at new developments. Through meticulous work, Silvio Schmed and Arthur Rüegg managed to restore the building to its original condition and accurately reconstruct the missing furniture and lighting. The book provides insight into the results of their almost archaeological investigations, presents the experimental building in its historical dimensions, and showcases previously unpublished images from its construction period.
